Selena Gomez hits back at trolls who body-shamed her after attending the Golden Globes

Selena Gomez has hit back at social media users who trolled her after she attended the 2023 Golden Globes.

The singer and actress, 30, was nominated for Best Television Actress – Musical/Comedy Series for Only Murders In The Building but lost to Quinta Brunson in Abbott Elementary.

She wore a strapless Valentino gown to the event with voluminous purple sleeves and a deep, off-the-shoulder neckline. But trolls on social media labelled her "dumpy", said she looked "horrible" and asked whether she "is pregnant" after her red carpet appearance. Symptoms of the condition can flare up for no reason. But appearing on an Instagram Live after the award show, the Only Murders in the Building actress simply said she was a "little bit big" because she had enjoyed herself during the holidays, which is a mood we can all get on board with.

She told followers: “I’m a little bit big right now because I enjoyed myself during the holidays." “Right?” Gomez said as she turned to her little sister, Gracie Elliott Teefey, 9, in the background. “But we don’t care,” she added, as the pair burst into laughter. Last April, she slammed body-shamers on TikTok and said that being "skinny" was not worth missing out on her favourite foods for. She added: "People bitch anyway. Bitch, I am perfect the way I am."

"And I just thought, 'Why would I — I don't get anything from it. Nothing is giving me life'. And I just snapped, and I was over it."

She added: "I'm completely unaware of, actually, what's going on in pop culture, and that makes me really happy.

"And maybe that doesn't make everybody else happy, but for me, it's really saved my life."
