‘It was a very difficult time’ – Selena Gomez opens up about childhood fame and its effects

Selena Gomez has opened up about the experience of childhood fame and what she would have changed in hindsight.

However, looking back on her younger self, Gomez said she does wish she started later in life because there were a lot of experience she said “stunted" her.

Speaking to Elle, Selena said: “I have no regrets and I have a fantastic family and there were rules laid down by my parents and I’m appreciative of that.

“However, I don’t think I would’ve done it very young if I was thinking of myself now. There were a lot of things that I felt stunted by.”

Leading into her twenties, having spent the majority of her young years in the public eye, Selena told Elle that it halted her from developing a sense of who she really was.

While it’s something that plays on her mind to this day - the effects of young Hollywood and the pressures of fame - she said it’s the projects she’s choosing to be part of today that make her happy.

“Then adding a lot of pressure from a lot of people didn’t help me develop a sense of self in my twenties,” she explained.

“It was a very difficult time. I live with it every day. I try my hardest to stay positive about everything and focus on things like this [movie] that really make me happy.”

Speaking of her young life of fame and her advice for anyone considering the same, she then said: “But I would just say maybe wait and have a little bit of a life.”
