Everyone has the same issue with The Housemaid movie

Have you watched The Housemaid yet?

As someone who was fully engrossed in the novel, I was hesitant about seeing the film because the movie versions of our favourite books are never truly better, are they?

The Housemaid follows ex-convict Millie as she starts working for the wealthy Winchester family after spending time behind bars. Millie can’t quite believe her luck when she lands the job, but all is not what it seems. 

I will admit that I was pleasantly surprised by the adaptation starring Amanda Seyfried, Brandon Sklenar, and Sydney Sweeney. The film isn't as thrilling as the book, but it's gripping, and Seyfried completely steals the show as Nina. It is missing a lot of detail that makes the novel so enthralling, but it is the type of film that'll keep you glued to the screen.

If you've not yet read the book, then I would recommend watching the movie before picking up a copy. There were many moments when I was watching the film when I wished I didn't know certain plot twists and important details.

There is one major issue I had with the film, as did many fans, and that's the total erasure of Enzo and his storyline.

Enzo's character was largely overlooked in the film, with Michele Morrone appearing briefly in the movie, despite his character having a significantly larger role in the film.

Fans were pretty disappointed by the decision to cut out Enzo's relationship with Nina and the way he helped both her and Cecelia flee from Andrew.

One fan wrote, "Enzo was done dirty by having his role reduced."

Another agreed, "I think Enzo deserved a bigger role in The Housemaid movie."

"I hate that Enzo had pretty much zero screen time in the housemaid," another added.

Earlier this week, it was announced that a sequel to The Housemaid is in development, with director Paul Feig and lead actress Sydney Sweeney set to return.
