Russell Wilson’s sweet Mother’s Day message to Ciara has rubbed people the wrong way

Just weeks after welcoming his daughter, Sienna, Russell Wilson has been praising the mother of his children, Ciara.

Taking to Instagram today, Russell posted a sweet message to his wife of just under a year, saying: “Nothing better than spending time with you. You are an amazing mom and I’m so grateful I get to spend the rest of my life with you and raising our kids. I love you! Happy Mother’s Day my love.”

The heartfelt message has been liked nearly 100K times with fans flooding the posts with comments of praise for the American football quarterback. However, Russell’s post also drew some negative attention with many attacking the sports star for saying “our kids”. Ciara’s eldest child, Future, was from a previous relationship with rap artist Future, however the child spends the majority of his time with his mum, Russell and his new baby sister.

Social media users attacked Russell for claiming Future was his own child, despite the dad often referring to him as such online. This isn’t the first time the couple has received backlash for their family structure, so we’re sure it came as no surprise to Russell that people commented negatively on the post. However, it wasn’t long until those comments were washed out with messages of support and praise for the dad.

“Just because he isn’t the biological father doesn’t mean he isn’t a parent to that child. So closed minded, people, maybe he is there for that child far more than his biological dad is – happens every day," read one comment. “His father will always be his father. Step parents are just bonus parents that love you. This is what a good man truly is."
