‘Gatsbying’ is the latest dating trend, and honestly WTF?

There are some pretty weird dating trends out there. From ghosting and 'bread-crumbing' to phubbing and kittenfishing, 2019 is pretty bonkers. Anyway, it is about to get even stranger. Apparently, 'Gatsbying' is the latest dating trend on the scene, and it might be the most pathetic one yet. 'Gatsbying' is when you, like Jay Gatsby from The Great Gatsby, throw lavish parties in the hopes of attracting the object of your affection. However, Gatsbying in 2018 means throwing a digital “party” and sharing lavish posts on social media with the goal of your crush seeing it. Are we all a little guilty of that? Just a bit like. The word was coined by Matilda Dods in a piece she wrote for TomBoyBeauty.com.
