EastEnders actor Jamie Borthwick axed from soap after using slur

EastEnders actor Jamie Borthwick was part of the soap for 19 years

The actor allegedly used a disabled slur, which led to his suspension from the soap earlier this year.

Borthwick joined the soap when he was just 12 years old in 2006, but has now been axed from the British drama.

A spokesperson from the BBC confirmed that the actor will not be returning to EastEnders:

"We can confirm that Jamie Borthwick will not be returning to EastEnders. We do not comment on individual matters."

The incident reportedly took place during the actor's time on Strictly Come Dancing.

The alleged incident took place when the cast was recording the Blackpool episode.

At the time, a spokesperson for the BBC said:

"This language is entirely unacceptable and in no way reflects the values or standards we hold and expect at the BBC. We have robust processes in place for this."

The actor apologised and admitted he didn't understand the harmful nature of the slur.

"I want to apologise sincerely and wholeheartedly for the words I used in the video showing my reaction to making it through Blackpool week on Strictly.

"I am deeply sorry for any offence and upset my words and actions have caused. It is no excuse, but I did not fully understand the derogatory term I used and its meaning."

The soap star has not yet commented on his exit from EastEnders.
