Add us as a preferred source on Google »Katja Mia has opened up about her health journey as well as her decision to use a GLP-1 medication over the past year.
In a new interview with the RTÉ Guide, Katja Mia revealed she has been using a GLP-1 treatment since July 2025.
The RTÉ 2FM presenter explained that she decided after years of struggling with underlying health conditions.
GLP-1 medications generally work by mimicking a natural hormone that helps regulate blood sugar and appetite.
However, for Katja, it was about feeling well in herself.
Katja took to Instagram to add some nuance and address her experience after the interview was published.
In a video message to her followers, she said: “First things first, I’m just going to say I don’t think we should be commenting on women’s bodies.
She went on to explain that she wanted to be “super transparent and honest” about her journey.
Katja shared that she has been diagnosed with Hashimoto’s disease, hypothyroidism and endometriosis. She says that these conditions have impacted her hormones and made it difficult for her body to respond to diet and exercise in the way she initially hoped.
“I was someone who was working out four or five times a week and eating in a calorie deficit, but I would gain weight instead of lose weight,” she explained, adding that blood tests revealed her thyroid antibodies were extremely high.
However, Katja described that the treatment has been "a game changer" for her personally, but stressed that her experience is her own.
“I’m not trying to encourage anyone to go on it. Your body is your choice at the end of the day,” she explained.
She said that she has “always been a curvy woman”, adding that her goal was never centred around losing weight and a certain number on the scales, but rather about feeling better internally.
She highlighted that she will continue to prioritise exercise and balanced eating, before pointing out that she already feels her efforts are now aligning with her health.
Katje captioned the post: “Sweaty hands and nervous posting this, but just wanted to keep it real. This is NOT medical advice, just my honest experience. (Please be kind)”.
