Add us as a preferred source on Google »The PSNI has confirmed that the Fermanagh shooting suspect, Ian Rutledge, has passed away in hospital.
In a statement, police confirmed Mr. Rutledge passed away on Monday, July 28th.
Mr. Rutledge was the only suspect in the Fermanagh shooting that claimed the lives of a mother and two children.
45-year-old Vanessa Whyte and her teenage children, James and Sara Rutledge, were killed following a shooting at their home in Maguiresbridge on July 23rd.
Emergency services rushed to the scene of the incident on Drummeer Road after the alert was raised.
Sadly, two victims were pronounced dead at the scene, and a third later passed away in hospital.
Mr. Rutledge was in a critical condition since he was taken to hospital on July 23rd.
The PSNI issued a statement following Mr. Rutledge's death:
"The Police Service of Northern Ireland has confirmed that a fourth person has now died following a shooting incident in Maguiresbridge.
"Police have named the deceased as Ian Rutledge, who was 43 years old.
"Mr Rutledge was taken to hospital on Wednesday 23 July, where he remained in a serious condition. He passed away this evening, 28 July.
"Detectives have reiterated their appeal for anyone with information, no matter how insignificant it may seem, to come forward."
The PSNI is investigating the tragic incident and is urging witnesses to come forward.
Ms. Whyte and her two children will be laid to rest on August 2nd.
Their funeral service will take place in Ms. Whyte's hometown of Barefield, County Clare.
They will then be laid to rest together in Templemaley Cemetery.
