Ireland to join international campaign for a four-day working week

Today (Sep 26) Ireland will join an international call for a four-day working week. The campaign launch talking place in Dublin today will see "4-Day Week Ireland" meet and discuss the benefits of a shorter working week. Among those at the campaign will include people who have seen the benefits first-hand. Andrew Barnes, founder of New Zealand financial advice company Perpetual Guardian brought in a four-day week last year for their 250 staff members. According to Labour spokesperson on employment and social protection Ged Nash, he said Irish workers feel they need to be constantly available to their employer given the new technologies and told the Independent: "We have to look again at our working time laws and how we can ensure working people work to live, rather than merely live to work." Galway firm ICE are one of the first companies in Ireland to already roll out four-day weeks.
