Gardaí confirmed the man, who is aged in his 50s, was released without charge last night.
Michael Gaine (56) went missing from his home near Kenmare in Co. Kerry on Friday, March 21st, 2025.
The male, who is reportedly known to Michael Gaine, was arrested over the weekend. His arrest comes after partial human remains were discovered on the farmer's land in Kenmare.
He was arrested on Sunday and questioned for 24 hours, but has since been released.
Gardaí issued a statement following the man's release from their custody.
A Garda spokesperson confirmed:
"The male (aged in his 50s) arrested in connection with this investigation has been released without charge from the provisions of Section 4 Criminal Justice Act 1984.
"Search operations, supported by local, regional, and national Garda units, other emergency services, and the Defence Forces, are ongoing at Carrig East, Kenmare, Co. Kerry.
"The family of Michael Gaine have been kept informed of this update and An Garda Síochána continue to support Michael's family through a Family Liaison Officer. The family have requested privacy at this time."
Gardaí have urged the public to come forward with any relevant information relating to this case.

Tributes have been pouring in since the remains were discovered. Flowers, messages, and candles were left at Michael Gaine’s farm over the weekend.
