Mum of Charlottesville victim speaks about daughter’s death

The mum of Heather Heyer has said that she wants mourners to make her daughter's death "worthwhile."

Heyer was killed last weekend while protesting a white nationalist rally comprised of white supremacists, KKK members, and neo-nazis in Charlottesville. She was run over when a car ploughed through a crowd of counter-protesters at the scene. Heyer lost her life and 19 others were injured. Heyer's mum, Susan Bro, has said she hopes mourners will turn their anger about her daughter's death into "righteous action."

"They tried to kill my child to shut her up. Well, guess what? You just magnified her."

Speaking to a crowd who gathered to remember her daughter, Bro said that this was not the end of Heyer's "legacy." She urged the crowd to fight as her daughter did, and to stand up for what they think is wrong in the world.

"You poke that finger at yourself like Heather would have done, and you make it happen. You take that extra step and you find a way to make a difference in the world!"

Following the violent rally, President Donald Trump condemned actions on "both sides" at Charlottesville. He has been widely criticised for his comments.
