The new Lord Mayor of Dublin was elected into place last night

Say hello to Nial Ring, because he's Dublin's new Lord Mayor.

Nial was elected into place last night at the Annual Council Meeting and he will become the 349th Lord Mayor of the city. The Independent Councillor said that he wants to promote a positive and inclusive message for Dublin, and gain its fair share in funding, especially into the inner city area. He also spoke about his excitement in welcoming the Pope to the city, as well as Meghan and Harry who plan to visit the capital next month. Nial was elected into Dublin City Council in 2004 and then represented the North Inner Central Electoral Area.

Fellow councillor Gary Gannon of the Social Democrats was delighted with his election and wrote on Twitter: "Delighted to say that a fellow son of the North Inner City, Cllr Nial Ring has been selected as the Lord Mayor of Dublin. A really decent guy who will represent our city with pride."
