Normal People makes history at the IFTAs

Unsurprising, really.

Normal People has made history at the Irish Film and Television Awards (IFTAs), picking up an impressive nine accolades. The 2020 series, based on the Sally Rooney novel of the same name, bagged nine awards in total at last night's event, surpassing Love/Hate for the most prizes won at the ceremony. Among the wins were Paul Mescal for Best Actor, Sally Rooney for best screenplay, and Fionn O'Shea for Best Supporting Actor. Following his win, a remote Paul Mescal said: "I am absolutely thrilled. It's amazing to be nominated with such fantastic actors. It has been a journey of over a year now that has utterly changed my life." Elsewhere, Cartoon Saloon's Wolfwalkers picked up the award for Best Film, while the late Nika McGuigan was post-humously awarded the Best Actress prize for her role in movie, Wildfire. Derry Girls' Nicola Coughlan was honoured with Rising Star award for her role in Netflix's Bridgerton, while Dating Amber picked up two awards, for Best Actor (Barry Ward) and Best Supporting Actress (Sharon Horgan).
