A teenage boy sadly passed away after getting into difficulty when swimming in the River Barrow in Co. Carlow.
According to reports, the 17-year-old male was swimming with friends when he got into difficulty.
He was swimming in the water at Cloghristick, Milford, Co. Carlow when he was seen going under.
His friends attempted to save him but the Irish Mirror reports that he was "sucked downwards due to strong river currents."
Emergency services were alerted about the incident at around 6.30 pm.
Gardaí, the ambulance service, the fire service, and the Garda Water Unit rushed to the scene of the incident.
The emergency services launched a search operation upon arrival.
Sadly, a body was recovered from the river at around 11 pm last night, June 17th.
Gardaí confirmed they're treating the drowning as a tragic incident. It is understood that the victim was from Carlow Town.

The Irish public has been advised to exercise caution when swimming this summer.
According to Water Safety Ireland, 26 people have died from drowning in Ireland in 2025.
