Virgin Atlantic pilots are thinking of striking this Christmas over pay and allowances

Flying with Virgin Atlantic? Well, it's best you keep an eye on your flight as Virgin Atlantic pilots are in talks to strike this Christmas over pay and allowances. The cockpit staff represented by the Professional Pilots Union are rowing with Sir Richard Branson’s airline as they believe Virgin has slashed some of their allowances and pay. This is the second year in a row Virgin has planned to strike however, last year it didn't go ahead as the bosses got a High Court injunction. According to The Sun, the airline is meeting with the union today in a bid to settle the upset and avoid striking. But regardless of today's outcome, the airline is ensuring that all flights will still go ahead.

"We value our pilot workforce enormously and continue to have constructive dialogue with our recognised union, Balpa," a spokesperson for the airline added.

Virgin pilots are among the best paid in the industry with some salaries exceeding €150,000. It is still unsure as to whether or not a settlement will be made today with one insider telling The Sun "no amount of litigation can stop them from downing tools over Christmas.”
